The Works in Bronze and Terracotta

Jan works primarily in bronze and clay.

The question of which medium to use depends on the intended purpose of the sculpture; typically a commissioned portrait of a family member or pet intended as a commemorative piece will be a one-off in clay, whereas a more prestigious piece for exhibition by a collector will be cast in bronze.

Price is also not an unimportant factor, and many purchasers who want a sculpture depicting a family member for their own contemplation prefer the medium of terra-cotta or clay; when fired and in normal careful hands this is extremely durable.

An experimental work, "China Doll", which will be on view at the St Genis Sculpture Symposium from Friday August 1st, is in Acrylic Mixed-Media.

Two of the bronzes produced this year use new patina techniques.
